"Let's go to Peckham Farm!" (Nov. 2011)
Mrs. Kim Mather, Principal
Dear West Kingston “Hawks” Families,
At the beginning of the year, I anticipated hearing about - and seeing - ways that our students would be striving to "soar so high that everyone in South Kingstown would know [our students] were West Kingston Hawks." But I never dreamed our students would be THIS successful, this early in the year!! I see examples of exemplary achievement and citizenship every day; from the time that they get off the bus in the morning until they board the buses in the afternoon. So, I hope by now you have also recognized your child's increasing confidence - academically and socially. Everyday, I see students demonstrating more complex reading, writing, math, and science skills. Perhaps you have already encouraged your child compare last year's work with this year's work to be reminded of the new things that he or she can indeed do!
I am happy to report that some of our "tried and true" traditions remain strong - like:
* daily announced names of students 'caught' following the expectations
* monthly Student Recognition Assemblies
* seasonal PTO fundraisers (VERY, VERY successful) and, after-school programming
Our school community has new initiatives, like:
* more sophisticated Reading, Writing, and Math Benchmark assessment data
* bi-monthly All-School "Sings" to celebrate our community spirit
* "Social Think" curriculum to further develop social skills
* Response to Intervention (RTI) for students needing support in Reading, Math, and Behavior Skills
Thank you for your children. We have a rich tapestry of wonderful learners.
Thank you for the support that you provide your children at home. We could not do this without you.
I am honored to work with you.
Fondly, Mrs. Kim Mather, Principal
