Iverson, Laura

Hi ...this is Ms. Iverson

Welcome to second grade.
I live in Charlestown with my husband Jon, three children (Eli who is six and starting first grade in the fall, Maija who is four and baby Charlotte six months) and beloved dog Brody. We love going to the beach and taking advantage of all that living in South County has to offer. We are very busy during the summer months!

I knew that I wanted to be a teacher since SECOND GRADE when I made a play school in my basement. I graduated from Keene State College in 1999 with a degree in Elementary and Special Ed. and a minor in Psychology. I worked at Sargent Center in Warwick for four years before coming to South Kingstown.I taught at Curtis Corner and the Farm SchooI before coming here to West Kingston. I have taught here for the past seven years and truly love the close knit community of staff, students and families I get to interact with. I graduated from Lesley University in 2006 with a masters in Creative Arts in Learning. These skills make teaching even more fun!!

This will be my third year teaching second grade. I love second grade because second graders grow so much throughout the year! They are curious and soak up the curriculum with such enthusiasm! It is so exciting to watch them begin to understand who they are and how they learn best!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have made it through our first week of school and although it was short we managed to learn many routines and rituals! We have played several getting to know you games and activities. Some of the students shared that they came to second grade with some fears or worries so we have been blowing them away inside bubbles at the end of each day.

The class has started Readers Workshop. We will do this daily and have already learned how to choose Just Right books, where to keep the books we are reading and which cozy book nook to read in. A giant thank you to Olivia, Evan and Ruby for trying on the too small, too big and just right shirts!! The children are doing great! We also started our Writers Workshop. Please ask your child to tell you what they do when they are done with their writing. (When youre done youve only ).

Also big thanks to those of you who sent in the money for the coin kits. We have been using them already.

As always do not hesitate to email me @ liverson@skschools.net with any questions at all. I will respond to those emails daily.

Have an excellent long weekend,

Ms. Iverson
