YMCA South County

With summer now in full swing you may be looking for something to do with the kiddos. Our friends at the YMCA have a ton of great options. Campers at YMCA summer camps, from Little Adventurers to Eighth Grade Explorers, spend their days immersed in a world of fun and enriching activities. They participate in traditional outdoor camp activities, creative arts experiences, games, nature exploration, and refreshing swim sessions. The camp environment provides a supportive and safe space for campers to develop essential social-emotional skills.

For those entering 1st grade, the Pioneers program offers a chance to experience new adventures through discovery and play. Water games, outdoor play, arts and crafts, group games, literacy, and dramatic arts are just a taste of the diverse activities that await them. Each week brings a new theme, ensuring exciting and engaging experiences.

2nd to 4th grades, campers can choose between the Explorer Sports and Explorer Arts programs. In Explorer Sports, campers explore and develop their interests in art, active play, music, and swimming. Half the day is dedicated to traditional camp activities like team building, arts and crafts, sports, and nature exploration. The other half focuses on swimming and sports, allowing campers to gain independence, responsibility, and teamwork through engaging in team-building activities. Similarly, in Explorer Arts, campers have the opportunity to explore and develop their interests in art, active play, music, and swimming. Half the day is spent in team building, arts and crafts, and nature activities, while the other half focuses on swimming and creative arts. This program nurtures campers' independence, responsibility, and ability to work together as a group.

Art Explosion camp invites campers in grades 1st to 8th to spend a week expanding their creative side. They get to create fun masterpieces while embracing the joyful mess that comes with art. Chef Camp provides a culinary adventure, allowing campers to explore cooking with tools and even delve into the science behind it. Farm Camp, ideal for science and nature lovers, offers a week of learning how to farm, spending time with animals, and gardening. It's an immersive experience that brings campers closer to nature.

For campers entering 2nd to 8th grades, Aqua Camp is a perfect fit for those who love being in the water. Campers must pass a green-level swim test and have a fondness for swimming in the deep end of the pool. Aqua Camp offers extra time in the pool every day, allowing campers to learn new skills or build upon existing ones. Water-themed games and activities keep the fun flowing, all under the supervision of YMCA lifeguards and swim instructors.

At South County YMCA's Camp Broad Rock, campers can participate in Peter Pan Surf Camp. In this collaboration with Rhode Island surf legend Peter Pan, campers spend mornings receiving surfing instruction from NSSIA instructors at Narragansett Town Beach. Accompanied by a camp counselor and YMCA lifeguard, campers enjoy comfort, safety, and support during their beach adventures. Transportation is provided each day, ensuring a seamless experience.
