Dear West Kingston Families,
I am delighted to welcome you to our school! West Kingston Elementary School is known for its warm and welcoming community of faculty, staff, and families.
At West Kingston, every child is valued for their unique qualities and gifts. We truly embody our mission of fostering a love of learning and offering students pathways towards excellence, creativit, and enthusiasm for learning. We actively engage our Pre-K through 4th grade students in learning and discovery.
Listed below you will find some of the work we do with every child:
- a workshop model of reading and writing instruction, we are an affiliate district of the Teachers College, Columbia Reading & Writing Project
- a district-designed math curriculum
- hands-on science learning
- Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement (social emotional learning)
- visual and performing arts
- physical education
- a library-media program
- learning in our outdoor nature classroom
- free play in our beautiful outdoor area bordered by woods and farmland
As well as these opportunities, families have the choice to enroll children in our Spanish-English dual-language instructional program (DLI), which prepares students to participate in our multicultural, multilingual society. In DLI, students acquire language while simultaneously learning social and academic content. DLI currently serves Kindergarten through 4th grade. Families that do not select DLI have the option to place their child in a Monolingual classroom. We are happy to have a conversation with you regarding program options to determine a good fit for your child.
Last but not least, at West Kingston, there is a true partnership between home and school. We have an active, supportive PTO dedicated to enriching students' experiences, which all families are invited to join. We invite ongoing two-way dialogue between families and our faculty and staff, because we know that a child's school experiences are best when parents and teachers work together as a team. We welcome you to our wonderful school!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Enck
